Family came to visit Amanda Knox over the weekend after she was found guilty of murdering her British roommate, Meredith Kercher, while studying abroad in Italy. Knox’s verdict was announced Friday at midnight, she was sentenced to 26 years in Italian prison. Knox’s former boyfriend, Italian Raffaele Sollecito, was also convicted and given 25 years for his involvement in the murder.
A life imprisonment was sought by Prosecutors, which is Italy’s toughest sentence. Courts can give less severe punishment than what prosecutors demand.
Curt Knox, Amanda’s father replied “Hell yes” when asked if he would continue to fight for his daughter. He was visibly crying when the verdict was given.
“This is just wrong,” her stepmother, Cassandra Knox, said, turning around immediately after hearing the verdict. Her family had insisted she was innocent and a victim of character assassination.
Knox and Sollecito will appeal the verdicts.
