One of the bombs were aimed at police patrolling the Dora district of Baghdad. Another four explosions occurred near official building several minutes later. Five coordinated attacks in total, three of which were suicide bombs hit a court complex, a college, mosque, and a market and neighborhod near the Interior Ministry.
The first attack started after 10 a.m. and continued for the next hour as all five targets were hit. The attacks are the worst since two suicide bombings killed 155 people on October 25, 2009.
It is thought the attacks are in response to the Iraq Presidency Council announcement that parliamentary elections take place on March 6. The elections were originally scheduled for January.
